Tangent Magazine

Layout ~ InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Procreate

Task

Curate and design an entire magazine by focusing on microtype, composing layouts, and establishing relevant art direction that aligns content within an issue and across issues. Consistently convey the magazine’s progressive tone through various subject matter.

Solution

I created a visual system of graphic elements, type, photo treatments, and layouts that supported the entire magazine with an underlying structure. By creating tight parameters that the look and feel adhered to, the content could vary without compromising the integrity of the magazine’s mission or audience.

Issue No. 1

Issue no. 1 focuses on the construct of “The Gaze” by asking the questions:  What does it mean to look and to be looked at? What roles do we play as the recipient of the gaze and as the onlooker? How does the gaze intersect with perceptions of power?

Each issue explores one theme through the lens of visual, literary, and music arts to gain a variety of perspectives.
